This page contains a number of videos. These videos cover basic building, how to match prims (basic building element in SL) to the grid and how to create tiny prims.

The first thing you need to do is right click on a surface and then select the word Build.

Then a create dialogue box appears. You can then create an object called a Prim. Just click on one of the shapes and it will appear (Rez) on the ground.

You can edit items in three dimensions. X, Y and Z Axis.

You can also stretch an item, rotate an item and move an item. When you perform a different movement, the place where your cursor grabs the items changes, below you can see small squards for stretching an item, small arrows for moving an item and different colored circles for rotating an item.
